Welcome to the A. Verey and Co. Photographic Collection site

The online catalogue consists of over 13,000 photographs taken by A. Verey and Co. between 1883 and 1954. The catalogue may be searched by family name, location, business and other keywords, or browsed by category. This collection is of the remaining photographs taken by Adolphus Verey (1862-1933). He started his photographic studios at the corner of Barker and Lyttleton Streets Castlemaine in 1883 and took many thousands of photographs of the townspeople of Castlemaine and the surrounding area.
 

Please Note:

Unfortunately there are no first names with the photographs. The surname of the person who ordered the photo originally is written on the edge of the glass plate in either pencil or india ink. Sometimes these are difficult to decipher and the in the index could be misspelled. Gradually as people view the photos on the website they pass on first names to us, these names will then be added to the index.
